Film Music Concert – John Williams
Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Superman, and other scores from major Hollywood productions.
December 2015 marks the date when the words “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” will scroll up the big screen for the seventh time, with the upcoming premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
On December 6th the new, extended Star Wars suite, composed by John Williams to celebrate the anniversary of the series, will be performed for the first time in Poland, at the ERGO Arena in Gdansk. The composer has 49 nominations for Academy Awards to his name, and has won 5 Oscars for best original score. In 2005, the American Film Institute named Star Wars the greatest film score of all time.
The concert will also feature other popular pieces by Williams, including his suites from Saving Private Ryan and Schindler’s List, both considered timeless classics of film music. The audience will also hear the thrilling march from Superman, the ceremonial theme from Jurassic Park and the shark leitmotif from Jaws.
In addition, the program includes compositions from contemporary blockbusters, such as the epic suite from Thor composed by Patrick Doyle, the vigorous theme from X-Men: The Last Stand by John Powell, the inimitable tune from Spider-Man by Danny Elfman, and, last but not least, James Horner’s musical theme from the breakthrough film Avatar. They all provide fans of the Film Music Concert Series with hints about what to expect during the next events.
The compositions will be performed by the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra and the Warsaw University of Technology Choir conducted by Maciej Sztor. The concert will be accompanied by a spectacular light display and projections of selected scenes from the films.
